Cold temperatures cause heating bills to rise

Members need to be conscious of their energy use as the temperatures drop to record lows.
A residential household’s kilowatt-hour use is largely weather-driven, Jay Kirby, a home energy auditor for Santee Electric Cooperative, reminds members as winter temperatures drop.
“Freezing temperatures make heating systems work harder and operate longer,” Kirby says. “Water flowing into water heaters is colder and, therefore, requires added energy to warm it up and then maintain that warmth.”

KINGSTREE, SC – A recent audit report suggests that Santee Electric Cooperative, Inc., deserves recognition and praise for certain management practices that have resulted in positive financial results for members. The court filing by Cam Lewis, who represents Santee’s Board of Trustees, notes that the “audit recognizes that Santee has done a tremendous job in rate control, capital credits, and new building planning and construction.”

South Carolina’s electric cooperatives are launching a statewide energy efficiency and consumer education study. While aimed largely at making the state’s highest-in-the-nation percentage of manufactured homes more energy efficient, site-built homes are also part of the study.

Santee Electric Cooperative officials are pleased to report that yesterday’s Annual Meeting saw record attendance again with 4,001 members registering and voting for board or trustees at Kingstree Senior High School.
Consumer registration and voting began at 1p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Registration and casting of ballots ended promptly at 6:30 p.m. Every member who registered received a $15 bill credit and a 12 can cooler and was eligible to win a variety of door prizes that were given away at the business meeting.
